Godot won't open OpenGL ES 3.0 Projects, any idea why?

gouserdotgouserdot Posts: 3Member

Whenever I try to open or create a project with OpenGl ES 3.0, Godot engine gets stuck loading it. No error messages, it's just stuck on splash screen.

I have OpenGl 4.5, so I don't see an issue there.
Godot is Godotv3.2.1-stablewin64

My Pc:

Windows 10, 64bit
2.00 GB RAM
AMD Athlon X2 340 Dual Core Processor 3.20 GHz
AMD Radeon HD 5450

PC is not the best, but this happens even with empty projects, so it's not a performance issue. OpenGL ES 2.0 works fine so far.

No error messages on console, either.

I also started Godot with powershell, to try and get more info. Tried to create a new project with OpenGl ES 3.0, and got this:

Any ideas what might be an issue, and what can be done to fix it?

Thanks in advance!

No worries! While forum chat is okay, I moved it to the general chat category, as we have had several other posts about OpenGL issues in this category.

As for the issue itself, have you updated your graphics drivers? That could be causing the issue. Also, do OpenGL 2 projects work? If OpenGL 2 projects work, that would help indicate it is indeed a graphics issue that is causing the crash.

Finally: welcome to the forums!

And I've just created a new catch-all General Support category for support topics like this. Moved it in turn there.

PS. @TwistedTwigleg I noticed we can add custom CSS classes to categories. Might come in handy in the future.

After a quick search, it looks like your video card will support GLES 3.0, assuming you have updated video card drivers. I would try removing your current drivers using DDU safe mode, and then install AMD latest drivers. That is a good first thing to try.

    Thanks for your welcome!

Re-installed video card drivers, just to be sure, but nothing changes.

Also, I tried running some OpenGL 2 projects, and they work fine. However, if I open a OpenGL 2 project, and then try to switch it to OpenGL 3, same thing happens, stuck on a splash screen.

OpenGL 3 seems to be the issue, I just don't know why.

Welcome to the magical world of AMD/ATI driver quality it's not as spotty as intel but it sure ain't nvidia either. They are slowly getting a bit better at it though. But so is intel, so it ain't saying much.
